My oldest is in 1st Grade, so this is basically our 1st grade curriculum. However, I've thrown in a few things for my Kindergarten-age son and my Preschoolers too!
"Easy Classical" Schedule
I was feeling overwhelmed about curriculum and scheduling, and I found Easy Classical. They provide a 36-wk schedule for a classical education. So, I purchased their schedule and the materials I would need to go with it. I am not participating in the entire schedule. But, I am following their Literature, Math, Grammar, and Bible schedules.
For history, I decided on Pandia Press' History Odyssey. 1st Grade is The Ancients, Level 1. I purchased the following materials to go with it: History Pockets-Ancient Civilizations, The Story of the World, and The Usborne Encyclopedia of World History. History Odyssey provides 36 weeks worth of topics and lesson plans to guide me through the year. Very user friendly and thorough.
I also am using Pandia Press' R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey: Life Science, Level 1. (Sorry...no picture of that one...)
For phonics, spelling, and writing we are using Spell to Write and Read. This program is set up as a one-time purchase. It should last us through elementary school and beyond if we choose to continue with it.
I've used Zaner-Bloser Handwriting and continue to use it for my 2nd handwriting pupil. I only use the Kindergarten-level book, and then use Copywork as Handwriting practice later. I like ZB's continuous stroke manuscript style, and we use it as a guide even when my kids are through the book. I have also used Explode the Code and will continue to use it as a supplement to Spell to Write and Read. For art, we are using Rod & Staff's ArtPacs.
I think that's it. :)
